The Wainbridge Incident

In 1132, the senior officials of both Spirit Shipping Company and the Victoria Shipping Company met in Tallinfax, Andega to discuss extending their various trade agreements into an outright merger under one banner.

A consortium of smaller shipping companies, led by Markus Wainbridge of Wainbridge Transit feared what a merger between those two companies would mean. In an effort to stall or even sabotage the deal entirely, Markus led various groups dressed as Victorian sailors to sabotage and damage Spirit ships in port, and vice versa.

The ensuing chaos did disrupt the talks, and forestall the merger for nearly a century, however, it didn't take long for the two companies to realize who was behind it. Their cooperation in spending the next five years driving Markus Wainbridge and Wainbridge Transit into bankruptcy became the backbone the later merged rested on.
