After the death of his sister and her husband in 1903, Pollack cared for his nephew, Modig and his sister Shamira. Pollack suddenly went from a man with no family of his own to practically raising his niece Shamira. Modig was old enough at the time that he didn't need much care, but Shamira being so young needed all the attention Pollack could give after losing her parents, but this was not Pollack's greatest challenge. For at the age of 14 Shamira was appointed ruler of the Gatelands, but just like he had always been, Pollack (or Uncle Pol, as Shamira called him) was there to help guide his niece through the transition.
Since that time with the help of Uncle Pol, Shamira has been an exceptional ruler. After five years, she has not only grown up, but is on her way to becoming one of the Gatelands most beloved rulers. To thank her uncle for all of the help that he provided her Shamira recently appointed him the Gateland’s Ambassador to the High King in Andrellsport after the previous ambassador died. Though it long since thought that the position would go to Modig who had been acting as the old Ambassador's aid, Modig had long expressed that he wished to stay at home with his young son Wulf thus giving Shamira the opportunity to appoint her much deserving uncle.
Pol was killed defending the Regent Francesca from Ambassador Isidora's troops during their assault and occupation of the High Kings Castle in Andrellsport
