Nathaniel Van Der Bosch
Nate was the second of a set of twin’s born to Wolfgang VanDerBosch III in a land just outside the largest city in Iskitaan, Roscorin. The VanDerBosch family has been nobility dating back to the city states that appeared after the first Dark Emperor Amadis. The land and title was officially granted during the reign of Andrell Morgonson making the bloodline officially 4th generation, unofficially 8th generation.
The birth of Nate and his twin Wolfgang IV, was a bit of grief to the family name. The “Rule of Twins” fable caused many of the family unease. To make things worse Nathaniel was born with extremely light hazel eyes, appearing golden in just the right light. Knowing what this could mean to a superstitious servant and townsfolk, Nate was whisked away to the country estate where he spent the majority of his time with the estate care taker. The estate caretaker, Elias, was in charge of the stables and horse bloodline as well as many other duties. Elias taught
Nate all he knew about horses and riding. After a bond developed Elias told Nate that he used to be a knight in service to Andrell and that he would teach him all he knows about such matters.
After Nathaniel had turned to an adolescent the family brought him back into the fold telling everyone he was a nephew. Posing as a cousin to Wolfgang IV, Nathaniel developed a bitter feeling to his sibling. Feeling robbed not only his birthright as 2nd born, but forced to play a mere cousin. This led to many childhood skirmishes between the siblings and as adolescent turned to young man, Nate became the strong and handsome of the two. Wolfgang IV seemed to be plagued with poor health and an antisocial behavior. Meanwhile the bitterness grew in Nate and he seemed to turn to carousing and rough housing to vent his anger. By the time manhood was reached it was apparent that Nathaniel would have to leave or he would get into too much trouble and embarrass the family.
Knowing his superb skill with horse mounted warfare, Nathaniel went to where he could maybe garner some fame and fortune for himself. He would prove to his father, his brother and the rest of the lands that he is the better man and when he becomes famous, they will all ask him back to take over as Wolfgang IV will never be adequate to rule.
Nathaniel’s personality has been shaped lately over the years. He is fiercely jealous of his brother and the affection and admiration he gets for merely coming out first. He has spent a youth abusing servants and being an upstart to local lesser nobles. He has an issue with anyone disrespecting him or ignoring him. He has been quite the womanizer, but has little respect for any woman he has met yet. He is generous in a braggart way.
After all these things he is loyal to and will never break his word or desert a friend. He does not have many friends save the servants he grew up with and some hell raising friends that he has a misplaced loyalty to. Nate keeps his personal business to himself, keeping his birth events a secret.
In 1102, the events surrounding the Ascension of Cerelia revealed Wolfgang IV to be a corrupted man, attempting to have his father, Wolfgang III killed and seizing rule of the Duchy of Bosch, declaring it independant of Roscorin and even the High King. Wolfgang III reconciled with Nathaniel, and after arranging a wedding to GennySoards of Ulder, the two of them defeated Wolfgang IV's forces and reclaimed the Duchy for the High King. Nate was named the heir and formally acknowledged as Wolfgang III's son.
