In hushed tones Juliet and Jacob speak together while Sebastian and Taloryn get ready to head to the docks.
“I don’t have the money to travel with you, so it looks like this will be goodbye.”
“Do you want to come with me? I have enough to pay for your passage as well.”
“I have taken money from a lot of women in my days, but I don’t want to start taking it from you. You shouldn’t be spending your coin frivolously on me nor on Aratec horses either. Although that horse could be seen as a good investment.”
“Oh? What do you mean?”
“Don’t tell me you didn’t know that your horse is of Aratec stock?”
“Oh I knew, I just didn’t realize that it meant anything special.”
“Aratec’s are one of the finest breeds of horse. Very expensive.”
“Oh great. I just wanted a horse that wouldn’t throw me off or spook easily. I chose her because she seemed a good match for an inexperienced rider like myself. I didn’t enjoy riding Socks to much so I wanted something a little gentler. And she seems tough enough for the journey ahead of us. You know I know nothing of horses. I figured she would work well with me, and I think you would work well with our group.”
Juliet pauses and looks up at Jacob.
“When I look at you I don’t see another Aratec horse to add to my collection. I see a person that will contribute and pull his weight with the group. You have value and are not a frivolous investment.”
“I will not be your kept man.”
Juliet laughs. “No one can keep you, Jacob. And I would not dare try. Plus I trust you to pull your weight… I would never leave you behind, but I will kick your ass if you slack off.” She grins up at him.
“Then I would love to come along with you.” He kisses her forehead.
“Good.”
Sebastian speaks up, he has been watching their conversation from the other side of the room. “So will it be 3 or 4 of us?”
Juliet smiles, “4 if you and Taloryn have no objections.”
Sebastian glances at Jacob and back to Juliet, “Not at this time.”
