Rauchen the son of Maurken his father and Celfe his mother, since an early age expressed affection for two things; mining into the deep earth and brawling with his three older brothers! Despite being younger he soon grew into a noticeable advantage of height and bulk that allowed him to compete with even his eldest brother swinging a pick or wrestling.
The Matek family came into prosperity easily having four tireless sons each trying to out do one another in the family business. All the competition was friendly and joyful until the day Rauchen, following a “gut feeling” tunneled late after hours and found what he was looking for; a vein of gold!
After the discover had been fully claimed and they began to work the vein, it became apparent the gold vein was very large. Every day they pulled more gold out of the rock the more his brothers glared at Rauchen sideways. The roaring and boasting after dinner went quiet, the arm wrestling and contests of strength ceased to be issued.
Rauchen's brothers were thoroughly beaten in the craft of mining and it doesn't sit well with a dwarf to be beaten at anything especially by one's younger brat of a brother. The mood rapidly grew tiresome, now he had to compete against his brothers out of spite. When Rauchen's mother and father announced their already large family was going to have a fifth sibling, the house suddenly seemed very crowded.
It was time to leave home, Rauchen turned over his claim on the gold vein still being worked to his father, packed up and left. Barely a good bye was spoken.
